I didn't know about the script/trigger changes (where was it posted?), and I
took a lot of the defualt triggers and tweaked them to my own liking. Is it
possible to use 1.7 until I have the inclination/time to spend however long it
is fixing all the triggers that were the reason for me using client in the
first place?

It's just I feel like I've upgraded to vista, it's very nice, but now my
programs don't work.

Perhaps this shouldn't be in flame, I appreciate all the work the Amarth and
crew have done for our great client, and I won't stop using it because of
this.

Perhaps we could start having a 'live' beta period, where one of the mirrors
has the new version and others have the old, that way we could identify most of
the problems that happen to players, and if they are too big, redirect the
players to the stable version?

This change was discussed on various occasions on the client-channel many, many
times. Of course, that is easy to miss.

The change to triggers is the second thing mentioned in Batclient's Changelog,
available from inside the client, as well as on the Batclient forum (in the URL
http://www.bat.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=258 ). A pointer to this
information was also posted in the game-wide inform at the point of release.
Besides this, also the internal inform newsgroup was used.

This change was *requested* by the players, and agreed among arches that the
whole thing should be done properly and recoded from scratch: trigger parsing
is to be done straight from the stream instead of separately in each window
(feature track item #166; sorry no, you don't get see this list as of now).

Sadly, this item requires changes to some of the scripts. Not all of them. This
kind of changes aren't done "every day".

Now, what we didn't know is that with v1.80 we actually introduced not one but
several "new" bugs, even though we had many iterations in internal testing--
one of the bugs being trigger-related.. Why, yes, we were overconfident in the
release. For certain undisclosed reasons, we also wanted everyone to receive
the new update as they load up BatMUD (see about v1.71 later).

The trigger bug: we spent several hours today fixing this issue, as soon as it
was identified (through feedback from the players). Naturally, we ended up
fixing more than just that. Btw, yesterday which was the day after v1.80
release, we spent correcting such as the bold/lite -issues players were
experiencing.

As you noted to me during the time I was writing this message, you've noticed
that your triggers actually work again. Yes, see--..

But while we're at it...the deprecated v1.71 was actually made available for
download already before the v1.80 was out, had you happened to look a bit
deeper on BatMUD's website. No pun intended!

Otherwise, thanks for the comments. I know there's a lot to be made "better" in
our processes, for such as preparing fully staged releases (which they actually
already are due to replication issues), however we're really thin on resources
for the Project--so we've taken this "indie" approach for now.

But without input on what's working and what's not, we'd be half the way where
we are right now, my thanks for helping us out. Though, my advice is that the
in-game client -channel is a much better way to get your dose of info on where
we're at right now, rather than the flame-newsgroup. But the choice of weapons
is yours, my friend.

First of all, sorry this is in flame still, now it should be in ideas-wanted,
but the web-site dosn't let me choose which group I reply in.

Thank you for your response, and sorry I was a bit hasty with the flame. I
would however think that a couple of things could come from this to make
players less frustrated, and therefore make them less likely to annoy wizes
with crap like this:

I have and will continue to use the forum it's a great tool, and you have been
great to respond to any questions that anyone has. Thanks! The client channel
is great if you're on at the right time... I understand that you need to take
the indy approach to producing the client and responding to issues, so the
client channel is a great place to get some live feedback. Would it be possible
to have a daily archive/log of the client channel, so if someone is having an
issue during the 'dead' part of the day, they can look back at the channel and
see if there is a resolution? (as the 40 message buffer isn't allways
sufficent)
I understand this might be a pain in the ass as people will start quoting you
from that log, but if they kept thier own log they could do the same.

Looking for an older, Java 1.5 compatible version? There's a deprecated and now
unsupported version available.

http://www.bat.org/batclient/v1.71-deprecated/batclient-old.jnlp

It's great that this version is available (all be it kind of hidden), how about
(if it's not already) putting that url into the the changelog, so if someone is
having an issue: - they look at the change log - see what the change is -
decided they want to play a little rather than deal with the change -
have the solution right there.

I would like to point out that you are setting up failure. You responded to a
reasonable flame with a reasonable and informative response. This is not how
Batmud work nor how the internet in general works. Please fix this.
