The idea of boot cycling is one interesting ways to fix the problem I
mentioned. I do not, however feel that it is the best fix. I hate to say
it, but the best fix for this solution, in my honest opinion, is simply some
time intensive coding to fix those areas with once per boot mob/item pops,
and a general mud wide policy against general rape prot and an extension of
the personal rape prot. I do NOT like the idea of eq being easy. What i am
merely suggesting is that everyone have an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY to get the eq (or
fail at it). ATM, this system makes getting eq as an american virtually
impossible. The situation is already bad, as Mithrand pointed out, that
theres few good players during those times. But this can change. I and my
friends have done things to actively recruit new players who play during those
times, and I think theres a real feeling of excitement and fun in playing at
nighttimes once again. Even some noobiesh eq has been done after 00EET. But
more a more active role must given to making areas/eq accessible to ALL
players fairly.
The problem with moving boot is that it will always discriminate against
either americans, or europeans. Sure its fair cause it cycles, but imho, why
fix a wrong by just adding to it. If you make a mob have a long personal rape
prot, and fix the quest mob/items to pop at all times during the day, then
europeans will not be able to "own" an area (unless they wanna kill the mob
just to prevent others to get the eq, even if it dusts, EVIL IDEA). Another
problem with a moving boot is the obvious one of having constant noobie whines
about jumping on mud and opening chests seconds b4 boot. One could fix this
by making a pop up warning about a boot within 30 mins...
I hate to say it but I also the "cloned areas" is also a poor fix for this
problem. And I say this with total respect for the obviously HUGE amount of
work and sweat that the coders have put toward creating it. I've talked to
about 20 players about it and the vast majority have been overwhemingly
against it. I also am against it and this is why: 1) it seems like a totally
absurd concept. I know we are playing in a world of dragons , and magic etc,
but the idea seems so totally crazy to me that its hard for me to grasp. 2)
The idea of SOME PvP interaction is not only good, it is essential in a mud.
This place would not be the addictive place it is , if you didnt have the
chance to wander through areas as a noobie and meet other players, and make
friends and party together, and YES EVEN TO MAKE ENEMIES (ahhh the good times
I had with Zach!). To me the idea of personally owned areas seems...well...a
bit lonely to be honest.
