Esachen, the Protector of Stability blocks your spellsong, allowing the
rangers to compete with their hiking skills.

Ok, so I can\'t vways... go, summon, relocate, teleport with/out error all
still work. In other words, this is stupid. Either they should all stop
working (so everybody has to hike), or none should stop working.

Or it could stop working for players competing and leave the rest of us alone.
Guess I get to quit mining until this events over. Lovely.

Let the first hiking post be trigger for participation. If you get that first
post, you participate in the event and "turn off" these abilities for the
duration of event and if you don't, you're not taking part in it and can
continue your playing like nothing ever happened.

Registering participation would require that you cannot receive the effects
of certain spells. If non-participating players can still effect participants,
then certain spells, e.g. venturers way, could still be used for an unfair
advantage.

PS. In fact, if you can summon, then a non-participant + vways (or whatever)
could run around and summon the participants to the posts.
