Racism is not, in and of itself, directly prohibited by any of BatMUD's rules.
You are allowed to dislike people here. However, _acting_ on these impulses
can very, very quickly lead to a violation of a few rules I can think of, such
as trading, extortion, and of course mass murder. Pkilling someone for any RL
reason, for example, is not covered by our "justified" clause -- take it
outside. Do not bring your real-life squabbles in here and expect us to look
the other way. This includes:
-- gender
-- religion
-- RL politics
-- job
-- sexual orientation
-- country of origin
-- and, yes, race.

Now, I (for one) am not going to clamp down on free speech. If you want to
say, for example, "All people from Keplunkystan are ugly and stupid" on open
channels, go right ahead. Most players will simply ignore you, and rightly so.
However, if there is a lvl 95 Kerplunkian player with a 54-kg warhammer and
nothing better to do, he's allowed to beat the hell out of you, and we're
allowed to watch and laugh hysterically. If you decide to press the issue by,
say, spamming channels or getting extremely offensive, we'll just cut off your
communication and maybe some playtime. And maybe there's an arch listening
with a fondness for Kerplunky music, Kerplunky literature, or a Kerplunky
girlfriend. Then you start looking at whimzaps or worse.

So it's basically a good idea to leave your RL issues with other people at the
login screen, and play to have fun. That's what we're all here to do.

One issue I feel I must cover regards language. While the official language of
the MUD is English, let us not forget that the native English speakers are the
minority here. Don't freak out if someone mixes a few metaphors, stumbles on a
couple of idioms, or can't use the past pluperfect correctly. But, if someone
consistantly demonstrates a lack of ability to communicate, then ignoring them
is understandable and acceptable. As well, it is _not_ against the rules to
take someone in your party because they speak a language others don't. Parties
require constant communication, after all, and if a 8-man Kerplunky party is
looking for a 9th, they are within their rights to ask for/look for a
Kerplunky as their first choice. If this limits their choices, and therefore
their success, that is their own choice to make (unless they start killing
non-Kerplunky players for misunderstanding warnings said only in Kerplunky).
