Hello,
After having read most of this thread I don't come to get one things people.
There's definitely whine, no matter what we do. Good tunes, bad tunes, people
always whine. Power hours - whine you ruined my parties, new continents -
whine I don't wanna learn new locations, give me maps, give me 0 ep costs,
blaah blaah, even the smallest changes lead to whines.
Now, while you always say that we code this game for players, and wish us to
have fun coding in our empty MUD without players, put yourselves for a moment
into our shoes. Imagine for a second, that you do something, and all you get
for it is whine. Would you be very much motivated to continue doing it? I can
tell you for sure, I know more than one wizard that left our dev team
precisely for that reason. No positive feedback ever. Even when new areas
open, they are mostly whined upon - this bugs, that bugs, boring, too easy,
not enough eq, whinebitchmoan.
What would you do if there wasn't any developers here to move the game forward
and to help you in your daily problems? Have fun playing your stagnating MUD?
Now, I'm not saying that anything we do should be taken with a bunch of
"Hooray"s. But most of the developers try to see the big picture before making
any changes that largely affect the game. They do not only see the spot in
front of their own nose, based on one reinc they are in at the moment, no. Try
doing that, you'll see that it is all not that bad.
As for "why are you placing the change when it's not nearly ready" - it is
nearly ready. To each probject there's core development and there's content
development. Since the project was an effort of not that many people, it has
been completed to a stage when it can be made public, not only to let you,
players test it and give the feedback, but also for other developers to test
it and start participating in building new content for it.
It's basically a win-win situation. Players, who till the very last moment
kept complaining that the game is stagnating, that nothing new ever comes
anymore get something new, and we, from the devs side get more people excited
about new changes and try working on more stuff to add, which in turn results
for more new things for you, players, to enjoy. The only thing which kills any
motivation, and I think that here I'll speak for the most of the devs, is your
permanent bashing. If you want a MUD that never evolves - go get yourself a
copy of ldmud driver, code 10 rooms with 5 mobs and do your exp runs there on
a daily basis, no problem. But even if you give negative feedback, it can be
given in a constructive form.
Constructiveness is what most of your posts lack. Blaming certain feature to
be bad - is very easy, actually coming up with proposals of improving - is
hard. But well, why do difficult things when we can just whine?
