I guess this reply should officially come from the treasurer, but
hopefully Amarth won't shoot me
On December 4th I posted a little about what we've been using the
funds for (news display inform 587). Basically it can be divided
roughly into four groups: external development projects, arranging
conventions, servers and hosting fees and administrative fees.
The external development projects include for example, work on the
new bat client (through Mythicscape), and purchasing graphics for
the client and bat's website.
The convention part has included two large conventions: our 15th
birthday party at Kaivohuone, and the Vegas convention. I don't
think it's likely that we'll see this significant convention
funding until possibly the 20th birthday of BatMUD.
Servers and hosting fees are quite selfexplanatory. From time to
time we need new hardware. Also, unlike alot of smaller MUDs, we
are running BatMUD from a commercial hosting provider, which
naturally has its fees.
Administrative fees include taxes, meeting expenses, possible
legal fees, fees to the financial auditors etc. This is basically
the necessary evil of any organisation, though we've tried to
keep it fairly low (we don't organise meetings at the Bahamas,
though I think that might prove quite popular).
Note that all bat's finances are audited by an independant,
professional auditor. We also pay our taxes as required by finnish
laws and submit our financial statement to the finnish
authorities.
Hopefully this answers your question at least to some extent.
