For those of you watching for news on this tragedy:

In a press conference given not 20 minutes ago, the shooter was identified as
Cho Seung-Hui, a 23 year old senior at Virginia Tech. Seung-Hui, a resident
immigrant student from South Korea, is believed to be the murderer of 32
students and staff, based on forensic evidence discovered so far. However, the
investigation is still underway. A second "person of interest", believed to be
an ex-boyfriend of one of the female victims, is still in custody, however at
this time there is very little known about his connection, if any, with
Seung-Hui, or between either of them and the bomb threats sent to campus
earlier in the semester.
It has been released that the shooter was found, apparently having shot
himself in the head, with two handguns (the receipt for one of which was also
on his person), multiple clips of ammunition, and an ammo vest.

No motive has yet been released for this terrible crime. Because the most
probably suspect is dead, we might never know.

Short Update on Motive/Facts of the Investigation: It's not difficult to
postulate that part of it might have stemmed from the anti-asian
(anti-nonwhite) sentiments in the Southern areas of the US, that typically
bear heavy on immigrants in schools.

Though, as he emigrated from SK when he was 3, it's likely he grew up with
this type of discrimination all his life and became introverted (as is often
the case). Furthermore, the fact he had lived in the dorms on a COMMUTER
CAMPUS for 4 (possibly 5) years, also is a little strange, and very uncommon
at commuter campuses.

This might also shed light on the motive since generally life in dorms
(especially if you troll there for 4 years at a commuter campus) is incredibly
strange and overly dramatic given the small amount of residents.

It is true we may never know why this was done, but I think the two most
likely and possibly contributory factors to this would have to be involving
how he had been treated as a Korean immigrant in the south (we have those in
batmud too and they've said it's not a very pleasant experience to say the
least) and how he became socialized because of it, and the stir-crazy
atmosphere of commuter college dorms, and most likely involving this girl, and
whatever perceived, real, or imagined relationship they had in the shooter's
mind.

The bigger concern today may be will there be a copy-cat? With finals coming
up in Undergraduate and Professional Schools there is a lot of tense pressure
going on, and as suicides rise when a high profile suicide occurs, so do act
of similar violence.

Motive. Blah. I'm tall, skinny, and have huge fucking ears. You want
discrimination? try that combo. I put up with worse than any minority I ever
went to school with(in southern Louisiana). How about this for a motive...he
was weak and snapped under pressure that MILLIONS have had no problem with.
Fuck him, and fuck anyone who sympathizes or makes excuses for this weak
willedpiece of shit. My sympathies go out to the families that are suffering
through this, and next to my regret over their loss is the regret that they
won't be able to take turns skinning this douchebags hide.
Now we get to go through what can only be described as a 'liberal
over-reaction'. There will be surveys, psychologists, upped campus security,
bag checks, metal detectors, Dr. Fucking Phil interviews, Oprah specials,
Lifetime made-for-tv movies, and a plethora of other headaches because some
Korean Twat couldn't figure out a better way to vent than offing INNOCENT
people.
Fuck him.

Your analysis is utterly useless in preventing this type of tragedy in the
future. You have essentially said there is nothing that can be done. Good job,
your suggestion to 'give up' we can't stop these people should be of real
comfort to the families of the victims and anyone affected by this act. Bravo.
And being called "big eared" is not the same as being racially discriminated
against, you're a naive person. And there have not been millions of South
korean Immigrants growing up in the south, that is the whole point.
Additionally, the best cure for this is personal responsibility, if something
like this happens to you, do not expect the police to save you, you need to
take action for yourself, like those on United 93 when they said "let's roll",
otherwise you are the victim. Better to die doing something than die lined up
on a wall waiting while the killer reloads and continues executing others.

Who comforts families of those innocent people killed in Iraq... enough said,
its not happening to any of us, it is not our problem? Well Virginia isn't
exactly in Finland where batmud is stationed so...

FYI, there are many thousand korean immigrants in toronto. And discrimination
does occur in Canada just as it does in U.S. However, the number of such
incidents is like 100x less there than in U.S. Maybe the answer is in the
society as a whole?
