First off before say anything....I want to thank the players that
participated in the donation end of the giveaway a HUGE(tm) thanks. Without
your help in bringing me the stuff you did there would have been no giveaway.
As for the Giveaway it went off awesomely. Many prizes were given along
with purses of money, a class3 ship, eqs, rooms, mounts and more. The newbies
were lined up at Huntingcamp east gate ready to get their prizes as soon as
their names were announced.
Its really nice to see the mood of the mud, and the interaction of all
players old and new. I posted a url where the results of the drawing is posted
: http://pastebin.com/saJBv0UJ .
This year will be my last year of holding this event I am sad to say. I
tried repeadly to talk with the wizard Ulath to have some kind of
administration interaction with the giveaway. To my amazement he wouldn't talk
with me, period. Then I tried to talk with lessor wizard's and got the exact
same results. So its apparent the game does not in anyway support the Giveaway
in anyway nor want anything to do with it. Very Sad.
It has been a fun run through the years doing this type event for the
game. And for all of you who think I somehow GAIN anything from this I assure
you that all I gained was a drained coffer, and some sleepless nights! It will
be a week or so to get all the newbies into their new rooms and then my
service to these events will be done.
Thanks again to all of you that supported this Giveaway.
thanks. **Shmuzin Thunderfuck**

Greetings.

First of all, I'd like to thank Shmuzin for organizing this event. We try to
encourage player interaction and I daresay this is a prime example of how
senior players can give the newer ones a little nod and a boost.

Now, a few things I don't quite get. It's great that you decided to organize
such an event. However, it seems that you feel that we, the administration,
are somehow bound to chip in just because you say so. I thought the whole idea
was that you want to help newbies out of the goodness of your heart - not buy
additional perks for them from the administration.

While it's true that we, or myself, could have chipped in, here's the result
I'm not: I have a family. Yes. I have two children that need looking after. I
have a household to run. I don't have time to answer to most of the tells I
get in time, to some not at all. By the time I could have reacted, you had
already gone down the path of whining to every possible archwizard how you are
being unfairly treated. That pisses me off. Yes, really. You did good here,
but nobody likes someone who demands stuff and then gets all sulky when you
don't get it.

It's great you look after our newbies by utilizing in-game methods such as
providing equipment and gaming help. But please don't forget that we also look
after everyone by making sure the hardware we are using works, the game itself
doesn't break and that we have new content. I find your post simply
disrespectful.

Best regards, Ulath

Thank you from my side as well for taking the time to organize the
giveaway. I am sure it is appreciated by the newbies that benefit
from it.

That said, I concur with Ulath 100%. I thought the whole point of
this event was for players to be able to help other players. Your
post on pastebin.com made it clear in no uncertain terms that the
giveaway was in no way affiliated with the administration of BatMUD.

As administrators, we could ofcourse clone items and whatnots into the
game to "support" your giveaway, but as admins we are also responsible
for making sure the game remains playable every day of the year - e.g.
we do not hand out items to players just because someone asks for it.

It is more important to us that new players have a way of playing the
game - making exp and acquiring items - 365 days of the year, than to
provide them with a gear upgrades on a single day. Gearing up is a
natural growth path in BatMUD.

<RANT ON>

Secondly, I think you have a strange view of charity. Last year, after
a similar giveaway you wanted taskpoints for your contribution to bat.
This year you are complaining that we dont support you enough. Its
like Mother Teresa complaining that she is not getting sufficient
recognition - medals, honor - for her work, and because of that she
couldnt be arsed to continue helping...

If you arrange these giveaways because you expect the administration
to give you stuff, you do these handouts for the wrong reasons.

<RANT OFF>

So again, THANK YOU for arranging the event (and thank you to the
players that contributed), I know it made some players happy and
thereby helped the game. But stop implying that we are somehow
responsible for supporting you or obliged to award you for *YOUR*
giveaway event.
