I would like to see the ability to send off an S.O.S. that could be seen by
other ships in the surrounding area. The ability could be given as either a
sailor emote command, much like the signal used to remote-call your ship, or
as a function within the helm, which could allow the first mate/boss'n to use
it as well.

As far as the 'why would I need it', perhaps ships with rebuiliders could
offer to help salvage a ship before it sinks, or at the very least just allow
ships in the area to come to your aid and either help fight an attacker or at
least help defend your ship from being plundered. As ships grow in numbers,
and with the up and coming addition of new NPC ships, it would definately add
a reason for player Navy, and give them a way to actually defend against, as
opposed to randomly hunting, pirates.

As far as balance or whatnot, I suppose if it is too much a hit AGAINST
pirates, it could be bought as a special with ship points, or only available
once per x time. Firing it off would give an emote to ships within a certian
radius to the effect of "You see a help signal off to the far southwest". I
have a few thoughts on this more than what ive summarized, so if you have any
questions, I can elaborate some.
