Cannons are not meant to be used repeatedly in succession. In fact, no combat
technique really is. If you want to use your cannons effectively, you need to
think about it from a role-playing perspective:

Are you using your cannons too rapidly between breaks? They are conducive to
overheating.
How experienced are your cannoneers?
Are your cannoneers being overworked? Can they manage all of the active
cannons? Do you need to hire more cannoneers? Use fewer cannons at a time?
Where is your target? Are they too high? Are they too low? Are they too close?
Are they too far?
... just scratching the surface here. I know there are some out there with the
knowledge.

Let's roleplay a bit more:
HELP! There are multiple holes in the hull and the water is leaking in! Don't
worry, it's just a flesh wound!

Real-life cannons inflict massive damage, especially when fired from certain
angles and/or close range. You don't need to shoot very often to do damage,
except maybe in bat where the cannons seem to use mostly feather pillows as
ammunition :)

Back in the ancient world, ramming was the way to sink your opponent. Then
technology improved, and cannons were introduced. Cannons represented a
massive improvement over ramming as an offensive weapon against other ships.
My feeling, personally, is that the way it is coded now is just stupid.
Cannons should be WAY more destructive and WAY easier to use. As it is, there
is very little point to use cannons, and those few ships that sit up in the
air, i just leave them because it takes forever to bring them down with
cannons. Please please upgrade assault magi and cannon damage so it becomes a
VIABLE method of taking down ships.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itz3UbVQYsM
This isn't the video i have in mind but i couldn't find the one i'v seen.
These was this ship with multiple cannon holes in it and even one below the
waterline, but it took forever to sink.

if you think it is hard to sink ship with 5 inch cannon(127mm)+12.7 mm check
out next video concerning ramming tactics, awesome music too!

Some people could say that they did even want to sink USS Caron, but then you
could also wonder what kind of selfish bastard would attempt to sink ship fast
in rare live fire exercise without giving other peeps chance to shoot it?

for comparison you could check out Bismarck vs HMS Hood

and as for age of sails warfare thats why those sneaky buggers used broadside
shots? 8)

Thanks for some constructive feedback. My blown up cannons happened
relatively early in combat. I'll wait til they are higher level to 1) give
them ( presumably) more hp, and 2) give them more skill. If however, all
current cannoneers get remediated in Shooting Stuff Safely 101, please let us
know and I"ll try them before then.:)
