I think the current alignment restrictions could be loosened up a little. It
could be something more alike to the normal fantasy genre; in the beginning an
invalid alignment for certain races would be a pain in the ass (halved stats
as currently), but with enough time the individuals could overcome the effects
of straying from their racial limitations, i.e. keep the halved stats for, say
2-3 rl months or something like that, and after that the penalty would be
removed - I doubt that many would still consider this kind of solution as a
good option, but it would be nice to see those couple of evil elf priests and
drow tarmas (etc) in the game for some additional flavour...

And guess what people would do? They'd reinc to good-align drow or evil elf or
whatever, log off, log back in after that 3 rl months, and voila, they've
bypassed something that's there for balance.
Ok, maybe it should be possible to bypass align restrictions, but rather by
character age. You'd be ok with being and eevyl elf by the time you're
ancient...
