So, historically I've been pretty resistant to change in BatMUD, and often
tunes have caused me to take extended breaks. That said, I can openly admit
that I was being a whiney bitch and that most of the changes to BatMUD have
been awesome. The invitial learning curve sometimes causes some pain, but the
changes to the game have really improved playability and overall enjoyment for
myself and I hope most others. A really big example of this was Continents...
Anyway, the point of this post is to ask: Why do new guilds need to destroy
the old ones? The old Lords of Chaos guild was recently replaced with the new
ones (which rock) ... but as this guild was a sentimental favorite of mine
makes me ponder... why do we not keep this great content still in the game?
The answer may be "We don't want you to belong to both old and new" which is
easily fixed by a requirement check at joining... or it could be "that old LoC
was out of tune" which I don't believe it was. As the new implementation of
priests is around the corner, could it be that there is inherently something
"cool" about a guild that has no rep system, only is useful for a couple
spells, and yet is required for EQ? Its a fun, rocking guild that is not
overly complicated, does not require much work to be reasonable (no rep), and
has no maintenance costs (such as sacrifice pts, nun prayers, etc). If new
priests come along, I'm sure they will be sweet... but can't we oldbies kick
it oldschool and rock out the guilds we have come to play and love for the
last 10 years?
The reason some old content is being phased out is because it's way outdated.
It is in no way in par with the newer stuff that people have done.
When no wizard wishes to take on the responsibilities of keeping that content
in shape, it's best to take it our rather than let it rot away, half
forgotten.
Another reason why a guild should be closed to give way for a new much
similiar one is the fact that things in this mud need tuning. It's much easier
to
tune five guilds than it is to tune ten. PvP is a good example on how tunes in
the mud have gone quite far apart with guilds. Some of the guilds are not
even in the same league as some others.
