When assigning a bug report to a wiz, could there be some kind of check if
that wizard is active or not. Currently if you send a bug report it can get
assigned to someone who has not been online for years. Also that seems to mean
that no one ever reads the bug report, as some bug reports I sent more than
five years ago are still marked as "new".

Here are some examples:
11627 | 2007-01-07 | Madrid | new
16978 | 2009-07-08 | Grimsh | new
21322 | 2012-02-14 | Orgoh | new

I think this is one of the main reasons people don't actually send bug reports
from bugs. Sending a bug report means it might be fixed in five years or then
not. If the bug is actually a major one, the way to go currently is to send a
direct tell to some wiz and hope they come to fix it right away.

The bug reports do usually get read by more than the issued wizard. And if the
wizard in question is inactive, someone might take it up or not. Some areas of
inactive/removed wizards even go straight to an active designated wizard.
The problem with these reports is that active wizards do not want to step on
other wizards toes, and sometimes we cannot easily see the problems that are
happening in other wizards areas. But we do care about the reports and do fix
them if we conveniently can.

That being said. If it's a Major issue and nobody has responded in a week,
maybe give us wizards a nudge with a tell, sometimes we do miss a report that
should be fixed in a hurry.

If it's a major issue, I don't send a bug report at all, because usually it's
a waste of time. Major issues are not the problem here.

What I wish is that those minor bugs would actually be addressed, and not just
ignored as they don't seem to be that important. There are a lot of minor bugs
around that people have just learned to live with. This includes things like
typos and other really minor things that could probably be fixed by anyone in
a matter of minutes.

Minor bugs just seem to be ignored more often than not, so sending the reports
feels kinda pointless.

There are a few issues here. One, the current bug assignment system is not
quite the best. However, when someone submits a bug, it is immediately shown
to all wizards, regardless of their affiliation with the issue. I'm almost
done with a new in-game bug reporting system that will hopefully assign bugs a
little better, as well as require players to submit a little more detailed
information than "this shit is broken.fix it" in their bug reports.

Secondly, it's a little hard to determine exactly who is active and who is
not. Some wizards drift in and out of activity, based on what is going on in
real life, just as players do. In the long run, it doesn't really matter who
the bug gets assigned to, as any wizard has the capability to fix most bugs.
There may be a variety of reasons why bugs might not get fixed in a timely
matter, which I'd rather not address, but it is still important that people
submit them regardless of their triviality. This game is for you and the
wizards are here to make the game better for you. If you see a typo, go ahead
and submit it...oftentimes they can be fixed with a single command from a
wizard.

One of my goals when I first wizzed, looking at our huge pool of bug, typo,
and idea reports, was to make sure they get all get looked at. This is no easy
task, mind you, as in twenty years we have had tens of thousands of submitted
issues to address. In recent months, we have appointed several highly trusted
mortals who have shown interest in helping organize our huge pile of bugs that
we have around. There are a lot of bug that have been fixed, but the report
may have not been closed either because the wizard forgot, or perhaps it was a
duplicate and the wizard did not find/search for it when they fixed its
duplicate, or some other variety of reasons.

With the addition of these mortal "Updaters", whom...if they read this...a few
should be getting their butts going...we have managed to increase the
efficiency of bugfixing by decreasing the amount of illegitimate or already
fixed bugs that the wizards themselves have to sift through, and categorizing
them for easy searching. With a little more effort from all, I'm really hoping
to get everything "addressed" within the next three years, with the system
being empty by the end of 2014.

You've probably noticed some upgrades lately to the system, such as being
informed of when a handler has looked at your issue, as well as being provided
the url to our web-based bugtracking system, Batzilla (http://batzilla.bat.org)
, where you may view your submissions in detail as well as provide comments to
the issues. The best thing that anyone can do really, is to log into Batzilla
and just graze through their reports and see if you've got anything there that
has been fixed. If this is the case, just leave a comment or note there saying
that, and someone will then be able to close it in a timely manner.

Today (which was planned prior to me reading Torc's post) you'll see the new
'bug view' display take hold, which shows all of the wizard comments as well
as the history of your bugs, similar to the info you can see online. Within
the next few days, I'm hoping to release a more improved bug reporting system
(interactive, like most other MMORPGS) which can gather a bit more information
from users, so that we have the most information to work with.

If you have a bug which you think is major or closed, you can also drop a tell
to any updater (Spid, Nuane, Ewige, or Ooga(ships)) or wizard to either flag
it as major or to close it.

I hope I have addressed all of your concerns. If you have any other questions,
please let me know.
