BatMUD is not a community made of axe-wielding ogres, mana-weaving elves, and
forge-tending dwarves. It is a community made of real life flesh and blood
people. The characters you see on screen may, in the game, be comrades in
arms, determined rivals, or complete strangers, but they are all real people
in a complex civilization of sorts. And civilization, by definition, requires
civilized behavior.
BatMUD has many rules. Most of these rules refer to in-game behavior, such as
player killing or robotting. Less common and less documented are rules
regarding the RL behavior of the BatMUD community. Part of this is because
they are less quantifiable. Part of this is because it's just considered
common sense and good manners in general. And, for the most part, this has
been enough.
As of today, however, there is a very specific new rule. Any player who
deliberately and maliciously lies, either on open channels or to a wizard
directly, about the RL death of a player (or any other similarly serious
event) is subject to indefinite banishment or, if I hear about it first, whim
removal.
