they work:
-- you need to supply the materials for the repairs. This could end up being
quite a lot of materials, but the repair shop will save leftover materials
indefinitely.
-- when purchased, the repair shop can keep items from falling apart
complately, but won't do much more than that. If a merchant has rights to the
shop, he can train the repairsmiths to a better level, raising the maximum
repair status the shop can provide. Awesome repairs are never possible.
-- gold cost of the repairs varies with item value, but is pretty much from 5k
to 20k per item.
-- shop stats can be checked so you know what you're getting into.
