One of our mortals recently, while robbing someone else's pcity chest room,
had the audacity to ask a wizard for the combination of a chest he was trying
to open, claiming the chest was bugging and that he had tried all the combos
(which, of course, was a blatant lie). While trying to decide an appropriate
punishment for a mortal who had, let's face it, balls of highsteel to attempt
something to clearly illegal, I took a look at our helpfiles and noted that,
strangely enough, it wasn't as 'clearly' illegal as I had thought. Hence, the
following rule update is made available to all:
Wizards are not allowed to share "inside info" with mortals. Any secrets in
the game (quest solutions, other player's registration info, vulnerabilities
in monsters, etc) that they learned only because of their coding time here is
to remain with the coders, and not to be shared with the general player
population. A wizard is free to share info they learned as a mortal, and some
things are not considered secrets (perhaps a post made way back last year
skipped the mortals attention), and if they want they can tell you if a
particular monster/item/spell/etc is bugging (so you can submit a bug report).
Wizards know they are not to divulge wizard info.
Asking a wizard to cheat for you (for example, by giving you inside info) is,
just to be clear, just as illegal. Do not ask a wizard to use his wizardly
ways to do something for you, whether you can do it yourself or not.
Naturally, if you think you found a bug, continue to report it by the usual
ways (bug reports are nice) with all the info you have. But asking a wizard to
do things like "make this monster take physical damage" or "is there something
I need to do to not fumble chest creation all the time?" or "tell me the combo
to this chest, so I can rob the owner and be a lying sneaking bastard of a
pcity thief even faster than before"...well, don't do that.
