Vahearun was once called over to the elven outpost to participate in the
council meeting as a witness in a case of plagiarism.
Some bard, they claimed, had copied a piece of music written by Nillirou ages
ago and the elves wanted revenge for this, in their opinion, heinous crime.
The elves, being an arrogant bunch of stuck-ups, didn't really pay much
attention to him during the whole affair, so he started browsing a stack of
sheet music that lay on the table.
He realized that among the music was some ancient parchments, containing
lists.
It was Lord Moonsong's private notes. He had been secretly writing down the
names of all visitors for years,
checking off exactly what each person came and left with. On one hand there
was a list of names, and on one hand a list of surplus the visitors had left
with.
It looked roughly like this:
Ewige Durtle Mingray Kragan Andthi Evilild Halle Entor Amd ; boots blade
bracelets.
Air Arnoldi Requiem Kuola Voi Zartak ; arrows hat bow.
Lammas Marrow Yehat Kheldor Spica Soulkeeper ; hat bow.
Xunisiih Merc Malos Farliss Thunk Broetchen Aga Marrow ; arrows bracelets
boots bow.
...
The list went on, page after page.
He didn't realize the catch until he was on his way home. It suddenly came to
him that the most prized possessions were usually stolen by the ones who were
least famous.
Or maybe that wasn't it. Maybe it was the amount of people. He could clearly
see some pattern here.
Or he could have if he gave a damn. Who needs eq in the company of archwizards
anyway? Merrily humming a tune he had stolen from Moonsong's sheet music, he
continued his long journey back to shadowkeep.
