Ship Reinforcements, A Beginners Guide
Volume 1, Revision 4

Ship reinforcements are a new feature for ships which allow
customizable enhancements for individual ships. Reinforcement
is the process through which special materials are threaded
throughout a ship's hull and sails, granting unique properties.
These enhancements fall into several categories of bonuses from
reinforcing the hull against attacks, raising the durability
of your ship, increasing its speed, enhancing its offensive
powers, and loyalty to the Merchant Navy. Sail reinforcements
are similar, but only affect the sails of the ship.

These reinforcements can be placed in one of three places, the
Primary Hull, the Secondary Hull, and the Sails. The first two
affect the hull, while the third naturally affects the sails.
There is nothing special which can be done to the rudder through
this process.

Raising a ship's class increases the amount of material it contains,
thereby weakening reinforcements. The net effect of this is that
any secondary or sails reinforcements are rendered ineffective,
and the primary is reduced to a secondary. Reducing a ship's class
has the natural opposite effects - the sails are unaffected, and
any primary remains the same. If there is a secondary, it either
remains the same or becomes a primary, depending on if
there was a primary before.

I have broken down the hull reinforcements into different categories.
These categories are Major Resistance, Minor Resistance, Speed, HP,
Ramming Damage, and Merchant Loyalty.

Major and Minor Resistances are pretty straight forward. These add
a type of resistance to the hull of the ship that counters specific
types of attacks ranging from non-elemental (physical) to fire, cold
lightning, acid, vacuum, poison, and stasis. These enhancements only
apply to the body of the ship and not the sails. A hull speed
upgrade would help the water speed of the ship but not its speed
while flying.

Speed and Ramming damage enhancements come in three ranges from a
slight enhancement to a superb enhancement. These can be applied
to both the primary and secondary hulls of the ship.

HP enhancements are only available in two forms, very strong and superbly.
These can be applied to both the primary and secondary hulls of the ship.

The last hull reinforcements available are for Merchant Loyalty. I have
divided these up into 5 enhancements based on the materials used and
bonuses given. These can be applied to both the primary and secondary
hulls of the ship.

Sail reinforcements are slightly different as their bonuses can vary
between materials. For the sails you can choose between HP, minor
resistances, speed, and pirate loyalty. Sail reinforcements only
modify the sail settings, so as an example the speed enhancement
would be for air speed. There is a slight drawback with some sail
reinforcements as they do have weaknesses. Not all sail reinforcements
have these weakness, but to balance their bonuses some weaknesses were
created.

You are able to have the same types of reinforcements on all 3 slots if
you so desire. An example of this would be having the best speed upgrade
for your primary hull, the best speed upgrade for your secondary hull
and then having the speed enhancement on your sails. Yes, that is
correct, you can have the same primary and secondary reinforcement
material used for the ship.

All reinforcement information will be available to you through the ships
console. The commands to view the resists and specials are console info
specials and console info resists. Below I have three examples of what
these resistances will look like on a ship.

An example of how reinforcements will show for Primary Speed,
Secondary HP, Sails Speed:

console info specials
The following information becomes known to you:

The ship is rather quick in the water.
The ship is rather quick in the air.

console info resists
The following information becomes known to you:

The hull is quite sturdy.
The sails are very weak.

An example of how Primary/Secondary Ramming Damage enhancements show up:

console info specials
The following information becomes known to you:

Barbed plates stick out all over the hull, ready to
shred other ships.

A third example from a ship with Primary Speed Secondary Major Poison
Resistance, Sails Minor Cold Resistance:

console info resists
The following information becomes known to you:

The hull is somewhat resistant to poison strikes.
The sails are a little resistant to cold based damage.

console info specials
The following information becomes known to you:

This ship has an exceptional repair crew.
The ship is very appealing to merchants.
The ship is rather quick in the water.
The ship is running a little slow in the air.
