Nomar's new profession, by Aelynn
-------------------------------------
Nomar was a simple man, a tailor by profession. He would
sit all day in his shop and work on beautiful outfits
for all the rich people, and also on outfits for the commoners.
He made a decent living doing this, and he was content with his
life, although he didn't have a wife nor any children.

It was on a day in may, a beautiful sunny day, that Nomar
went on a trip to the big city to buy new cloth and leather
and other things he needed for his work. He himself lived in
a small town called Yrden, and once every month he went to
the city of Algad to buy his supplies.

He walked at the market of Algad and browsed around the many
stands that sold their stuff. While he was looking around he
saw something beautiful and shiny. Strange cloth he had never
ever seen before. It was a yellowish colour, and it shined
as if it was gold.

He asked the salesman about this cloth. Not much of it was lying
there. And the salesman answered him in a soft whispering tone,
"It is said this cloth is magical".

Nomar was a simple man, not into magic and that sort of things.
He believed there was more though than meets the eye.
But magical cloth, he didn't know what to think of this.
The colour and general appearance of the cloth was incredible.

He asked about the price, and the salesman said, "for 70 gold
you can have it all.". Now was seventy gold a lot of money for
a simple tailor like Nomar. But the colour of this cloth, it shined
like it really was magical. Nomar had seen a lot of coloured cloth
in his life, and he really had an eye for colours.

He seriously thought about buying this cloth, while suddenly
someone yelled at the salesman from behind Nomar, "Sell me that cloth!"
As Nomar stood there with the cloth in his hands, the salesman said
to this person, "I think this man here wanted to buy the cloth."

"I don't care what he pays for the cloth I will pay more!", the
person standing behind Nomar said to the salesman.
"But I have already said this man could buy it for 70 gold", the
salesman said, "You wanted to buy this cloth didn't you?" he asked
to Nomar.

"Well yes I was thinking about it", Nomar said. "Then it's a deal",
the salesman said to Nomar. He had just spoken this to Nomar as
the man standing behind Nomar screamed out, "You can't sell it to him,
I offered more, what kind of business man are you, worm!"

Nomar now turned around and looked up to what was a tall man.
Nomar himself was a mere 6 foot tall. This man was like 6 foot 6 tall.
And considering the muscular build of the man, it was a warrior.

Nomar got a little afraid, but he really wanted to buy this cloth.
The colour so bright and shining like fire. He turned towards the
salesman, and said, "You sure you want to sell this to me for 70 gold,
eventhough this other man offers you more for it?"

"Yeah I'm sure", the salesman said, "See he is already gone.".
Nomar turned around and the man was gone. He looked around, 'where
had this man gone so quickly?'

Nomar bought the cloth for seventy gold coins and he also bought the
normal supplies he needed.

When he got back home, the next day, he started to work on this material
he had bought. He decided to make a pair of gloves from it. It was too
little material to make a shirt from it. It would have been cool to
have a shirt from this cloth though.

He worked slow and precise, he didn't want to waste this material.
In exactly two hours he finished his gloves made of this shiny weird
yellowish cloth.

He put them on and instantaniously his outfit changes from the commoners
outfit he always wore to a sorcerers outfit, including a sorcerers hat,
a big cloak with many pockets for the reagents, and a wooden quaterstaff.

Nomar is amazed and startled at first. But then he starts to think, and
his mind patern has altered together with his physical transformation.
He is now able to recall many a spell.

Nomar remembers, by Yrden, September 20, 2004
---------------------------------------------

Nomar doesn't know what to think of this, he is now a sorcerer?
The salesman told him the cloth was magical, but he didn't
really believe it. But here he was dressed in a sorcerers outfit and
with total inside knowledge into magic itself.

'What would happen if I removed the gloves again?', Nomar thought to
himself. And he removed his newly made yellow gloves.
Nothing happened. He still remained dressed in his sorcerer's outfit
and he still possessed the knowledge of magic.

'What to do? what is the reason behind this', Nomar thought to himself.
And he walked over to the mirror to look at his outfit. But when he looked
at the mirror he was shocked, not only did his outfit change, but it was
a different face looking back from the mirror.

Nomar stared at the mirror. Somehow the face seemed familiar to him, but he
couldn't remember where he had seen it before. Then suddenly he remembered,
it was his own face, 'but how?'. Nomar searched his memory for the answers.

He thought about his life, he remembered his youth, studying at the
magicschool, his friends, his adventures, and then suddenly he was
a tailor. And not only was he a tailor, but somehow his memories had
been altered. This wasn't right he wasn't a tailor, he was a sorcerer.

He tried to think what had happened before his life as a tailor. Before his
recent transformation into a sorcerer he had believed he had been a tailor
all of his life. But his new found memories lead to believe otherwise.

Only six months ago he was still with his friends fighting an evil wizard,
in Uttenherd, a country far in the north. His last memory, before his life
as a tailor, was of him and his friends entering the wizards castle.

It was night and they moved carefully through the corridors under the castle.
It took them two weeks to figure out how to enter the castle, but finaly
they found a way. They walked carefully through the dark corridors, watching
out for traps, luckily Elwar, a young elven girl, that had been with the
group for only three years, after Horal unfortunately passed away, was very
skilled in detecting and disarming traps.

They had to reach the wizards laboratory and steal the Eye of Kholan, a big
red ruby empowered with elven magic and capable of bending reality if used
properly. They had to retrieve this gem before the evil wizard, whose name
was Wlero, could use it for his evil plans.

Elwar had sofar succesfully disarmed three traps, hidden in the corridors
under the castle, and they had reached a staircase going up. They had to go
up, towards the tower which was in the centre of the castle.

They had to hurry, because it was only a matter of time before the other
guards would discover that there were guards missing. They had slain about
seven guards sofar, whose bodies they had hidden away, invisible.

They took the stairs to the next floor, they didn't have much time, so Elwar
wasn't given enough time to detect the trap on the stairs, however as they
ran up the stairs, from behind Nomar, whose name was infact Nomar, unchanged
by whatever had happened to him, heard Elwar call out 'trap!'

But it was too late, Taeq, the huge half-giant fighter had stepped
on the wrong spot and there was a blinding flash of light, a
little blueish light it was. And then the memories of Nomar ended.

Somehow the next day he woke up in the town Yrden and had forgotten all about
his previous life. Somehow Wlero must have been able to use the Eye of
Kohlan and bended reality for Nomar and the others?

'the others, What had happened to them?' Nomar thought.

Nomar and his first spell, by Kyral (march 30, 2007)
----------------------------------------------------------

Nomar thinks long and hard, as he paces through his humble home.
What is he to do? His friends have they been put under a spell also?
and where would they be?

It doesn't take Nomar a long time to make up his mind about what to do.
He _has_ to find out. He _has_ to go back to Uttenherd and find out.
Maybe once he retrieves the Eye of Kholan, the elven elders can do
something to find the others.

The elves... He didn't even realize it at first... he is ofcourse an elf.
As he touches his familiar pointy ears he realizes that he was living the
life of a human in this town called Yrden far at the west coast of the great
continent Assenherd. He himself grew up in a town near the center of
Assenherd.

He had been travelling around quite a lot though, after he had reached
adulthood,
and he had become quite a skilled sorcerer. Something different than the path
his
parents had chosen for him, but he liked it, and that's all what counts.

Now where was he to go, and was he in a hurry, or did he have time to think up
a plan? He was never really the planner of his team. Hyacint the human wizard,
an elderly man, about 70 years old, he was the leader of the team, they liked
to call jokingly 'the great powers'.

He had to find Hyacint. He, who usualy accompanied them to their tasks
himself,
hadn't gone with them on this task. So he would have been unaffected by the
spell,
the evil wizard, whose name was Innadam, had cast upon him.

Hyacint? Would that guy on the market have been actually Hyacint in disguise.
It could be? But there was no way of knowing. If only he could remember what
he
was supposed to do... In his trainings he had been taught by HYacint a way to
reach him. Some sort of ancient ritual that sorcerers and wizards could
perform.

But how did it go? Did he forget? He never really payed that much attention to
Hyacint's teachings. Well he learned but he had quite a strong will of his
own.
It might have well be that Hyacint's wizardry didn't go too well together with
his
own sorcery. It's still two different approaches to magic.

But he did not sleep when Hyacint explained the ritual, so he must know.
It had something to do with written text, which Nomar wasn't very comfortable
with.
Instead of just casting a spell by saying it outloud, a wizard wrote his
spells
down in a spellbook and then when he read them they started the go off.

"This is just crazy" Nomar says to himself, "I'm not a wizard how would I ever
be able to cast a spell by not knowing it." But he knows what he has to do and
finds himself a piece of paper and a pen. And starts writing.

It doesn't really takes him a lot of efford and he manages in one try.
Now he has to cast it somehow. But how was it.. You take the book in one hand,
but which hand. or doesn't it matter? A book? "But I've only written down one
spell"
Nomar mutters.

So he takes the note in his left hand and reads it outloud. It's written in
the
ancient elven tongue and it translates as follows:

"To gods and people I beg of thee,
To let me go I rest in peace
I came with nothing on my mind,
and you the people, you are blind.

Blinded by your hate and pride
You hurt the others, I call it fight.
I'm not like this I stand aside
Let me go back to where I can hide."

Suddenly a big yellow flash of light fills the room and Nomar has disapeared.
