When a blunt weapon strikes, the damage it can produce is determined only by its speed and its weight. For centuries, soldiers and weaponsmiths have struggled with the optimum combination of the two to form the most brutal bashing weapon. A more feasable solution is to use the weapon from the back of a fast horse (or similar creature). In addition to the obvious added speed the rider gains from the steed, by striking downwards at their foes they can impart extra force to their blow, causing even more damage.
