One thing many people know is that animals have a strong, sometimes overwhelming, fear of fire. Beastmasters have learned to train their animals to suppress this fear, or at least to suppress the symptoms. They do this by hitting the animal repeatedly, until the animal fears the rider more than any flame. You must wield a whip or a poker to use this skill.
