There are many times when a ranger must have a good
picture of his surroundings, in order to plan his next move.
With this skill he can take a look at the surrounding area
with little effort. The better trained the ranger, the larger
the area he can scout without trouble. Many times, one with
a trained eye will notice a ranger, high a top of a tree, peering
off into the distance. More than likely he is scouting an
area, and definitely, he has already noticed you hours ago
as you approached.
