Long ago, there were not detailed maps for people to navigate the lands. Roads were non-existent outside the major settlements. Sailors, who never had maps or roads to guide them, discovered navigation skills, using the stars as landmarks. This art also works well for land navigation. Using a sextant can get you much better results than without.
