Yet another month has quietly slipped by since my last blog update. Finding
myself with a few minutes of peace and quiet for once in a long while, I'll
try to cover quickly what I've been up to. A good chunk of the month once
again has been chewed up trying to finish out the projects for the end of the
corporate fiscal year of Oct. 1. Spent the last few weekends at the office to
help another group make the deadlines, for which I've been rewarded with a few
donuts and thanks. Well, it is better than nothing. Although, I've been
chewed out by other programs not associated with that group for not paying
enough attention to their work which doesn't end this month. No good deed
ever goes unpunished.

I had to travel to Austin, Texas on the 14th through the 16th of the month. I
didn't get much time to explore the city as we didn't arrive and check in to
our hotel till 10:30 pm of the 14th. The 15th was 8am - 7pm of meetings.
After a late supper, everyone (my boss, and a couple other leads) were too
tired to do anything more. The 16th was meetings till 3pm, then flew out at
5pm. However, I did at least make a few observations. I was highly
disappointed that not a single pick-up had a gun rack in it. There wasn't as
much drawl speakers as I would have expected. I was informed that most of the
people who live in Austin, aren't "native" Texans. And I'm amazed at how many
pretty young professional women are out there. Here in Iowa, most of the
women are still behind the curve when it comes to white collar jobs. A good
majority are still in the service/administrative industry and very, very few
engineers, management, and the like. Imagine my surprise to be flirted by a
few of the ladies, how refreshing! A friend of mine that has done extensive
travel has always claimed that women behave much more aggressively/differently
than around here in Iowa. I now have to agree. Women with degrees and
education are such a premium, that for every 1, there are several available
males for them to select from and to be chased by. The "less" educated behave
similarly as their educated kin, and you have the factor that the women here
are interested in blue collar guys rather than putting a premium on an
educated man. I guess I attribute that to the large amount of PWT that comes
in from around the area. Hard to describe, but it is frustrating.

To be continued, gotta jet off for lunch.
