Been a while since I've updated this blog. Pretty sad that I have to stay late after hours here at work to ever get the time to even type in a few lines into the old blog. Lately, I've been off fighting a battle with a top level sell-off station. I hacked in some quick software fixes so production can sell-off units, meanwhile I've been helping the hardware guys to track down where the intermittency may lie at. Hopefully this next week, we can nail the problem down and fix it so I don't have to worry that the station will be dead soon. That would bring some serious high level manglement wrath down upon my group. I'm still trying to find a way back to doing programming at work again. My role currently seems to be drifting more and more to leadership roles. I don't mind it when I have good people to work with, but with the recent departures, I'm stuck with a lot of question marks and dregs. I don't mind mentoring the noobs, but having to hand-hold a 60+ year old engineer who has been around 25 years is driving me nuts. All I get is complaints on how he can't do anything without someone showing him how to do something simple. Zero initiative and it pisses me off this guy is earning muchos more than me, and I have to carry his ass. Life ain't fair. Fall has been wonderful here in Iowa. Beautiful colors on the trees, and a rare warm and dry October. Dad and I have already gotten the fall corn harvest completed. Right now we are wrapping up the last of the fall chisel plowing of the fields. After this, farming drops off to me doing more firewood gathering, if my weekends allow me the time. Speaking of weekends, I went to Minneapolis for the weekend to catch a college bud of mine from Athens, Georgia. Another friend came from the Western part of Iowa, and we crashed at our friend's house in Minneapolis. I got up there Sat. noon, grabbed some lunch, then we hit a mini-kart indoor race track. I had never driven one of those before, and it was a riot! It took me a few laps to get comfortable enough to actually begin racing, and if we were allowed, I think we four would've started pulling some serious NASCAR moves by the end of the race. Afterwards, we went back, watch some DVD's, caught some more food, then went to the Mall of America. We intended to hit a comedy club, but they were sold out for the last show. So instead, we hit the sports bar across the hall, and had a great evening shooting pool, darts, and foosball. By the time we got home after 1am, we decided to veg on chips, caught the ISU football score on ESPN, and crashed. We were up by 8:30 to get ready for some breakfast with another ISU alum. By noon, we were heading our separate paths again for our homes. A great weekend had by one and all. Shoutout to all the gals who wear t-shirts that say "I love nerds", you make me smile at least! 8)
