Going to do my blogging a bit early today since I have the free time and the motivation. Weekend was good, I went down to Ames to visit my college bud and his brother. I had a scare though on my trip. Just as I was pulling off the exit, I heard this loud whirring sound coming from my front right side of the truck. I pulled over and did confirm that something was amiss, but it was so dark I couldn't see very to determine if there was an obvious problem. So, I limped it to the friend's place and waited till the morning to investigate. The next morning, the problem was still there, and I couldn't see anything wrong. So, I jacked up the front end and could free spin the front tire and reproduce the sound which was a clicking sound at lower speeds. Resigned to getting it fixed, I called a local auto repair place and was lucky to get in right away. By this time, I was thinking I would be spending a few extra days in town till the truck was fixed and be out several hundred dollars. After 20 min., the repair tech came over and said that my push button 4x4 had started to engage the four wheeled drive which was causing the sound. All he had to do was fully engage the four wheeled drive, drive it a bit, then disengage again, and the sound was gone. WHEW! And on top of that, they didn't charge me a dime for their time. I hope and pray some good karma/blessings come their way. So after that, I was in a much better mood to enjoy my trip. We ended up playing Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows for a few hours in multi-mode. A fun game, but it isn't a very long game at all, not worth more than a rental really, and not even that for single player mode. By the late afternoon, we loaded up and went to our D-n-D session where I reprised my role of a druid-beastmaster (v. 3.5 rules) that I had created at the start of this ongoing campaign. Being the imaginative feller that I am, I decided he would be the master of squirrels and created for the character a large red squirrel familiar by the name of Mr. Twitters. Well, that first night I played the character as odd as I could, by having everyone in the party know that the familiar was guiding me and was an all-powerful creature. After that session, the character went to DM control, and he has since been running the gag by actually having the familiar show in people's dreams and mysterious events happening when the familiar comes in contact with the players. As of now, they fear the squirrel as being a red dragon in disguise and paranoia runs rampant. So needless to say, I had a fun time interacting with the players as we journey from a set of caves to the ruins of Kendermore (post Chaos Wars Dragonlance setting). Not a lot of battling except for a few random encounters and one of the kenders decided to take the tower of high sorcery test to come out as a white robed kender. A fine night overall. Sunday morning, I zipped off to church. And since it is a college town, I was enjoying all of the lovely scenery that was attending. Man, I sure do miss that aspect of college life. Afterwards, we did lunch and then traded some video games (whee! more stuff on the stack to play) and then we parted ways while there was some daylight to burn (in case I would have another episode with the truck). The journey home was uneventful, and I even saw 2 farmers out chisel plowing because the frost was out of the ground already in Jan. A rare event indeed. Called the parental modules, did some laundry, and caught the first 2 hours of 24 (really liking this season start so far). And that is my weekend in a nutshell. And then, I'm in the cube today at work. 8(
