As promised yesterday, I'll recount my Easter weekend. Thursday night I left Cedar Rapids at around 6 in the evening. Low on the SW horizon was a small dark storm cloud. As I drove along, that cloud kept climbing higher and higher into the sky as I travelled north and east away from it. By the time I got to the farm, it was a massive storm. Turns out it was a tornadic storm that eventually hit Iowa City and only left us with a few tenths of rain at the farm. Friday I was chauffering the parents back to Cedar Rapids for an antique show. This year they had moved the show to a new location, so the parental modules wanted a driver to show them the way. Ah, the dues a good son must pay. Show was of decent size and quality. I didn't purchase anything, but my dDad came home with a few items he considered bargains. Sad thing is that the average age of the show attendees was in the late 50's. Not a way to pick up chicks, that's for sure! Saturday was a beautiful day in April. Sunny, breezy, and 80 degree temps (almost 25 degrees above normal). In the morning, I disc'ed down the plowed sod ground. The ground was pretty mellow except in the few clay areas of the field. Afterwards, Dad and I cleaned up the disc and oiled down the disc blades to retard rusting and put it away for the year. In the afternoon, I was out in the timber pulling out more firewood tops. I even managed by the end of the day to come out with a light sun burn on my exposed flesh. I rarely tan easily, burn a few dozen times to a light brownish red by the end of summer. That night, the parents and I attending Easter vigil mass because Mom had to work Sunday morning. Easter Sunday was pretty slow with a day long rain. Since we were holding an Easter supper, Dad and I puttered around the house. Dad cleaned most of the rooms, I ended up dusting and straightening up my room for entertainment. Yeah, network television on Sun. morning is horrid. My sister rolled in around 3 to start the festivities. Nothing special, but some quality family time with my bro and sis and their families. By 7, I had to head out for my other home. I was nearly stuck in the mud trying to get my truck out of the back hay shed (for hail protection from all of the weekend storms). I had to drop it into four-wheeled drive and rock it several times until I was able to free myself. The truck is still pretty caked up with mud. Having fun at work making the developer's lives miserable. I'm still finding issues with their code, and their laments is amusing. I laugh at their pain! And speaking of pain, gas prices climbed to 2.75 a gallon now. Looks like we are well underway for that magic 3 dollar mark soon around here. On the upside, I managed to hit the 10 lb weight loss by Easter, so that's 10 pounds in 6 weeks, not too shabby. Hopefully I can keep this rate up for a few more months. Still suffering from lack of energy during weight lifting nights, but otherwise the diet is quite tolerable during the rest of the day and on cardio nights. Well, on that good news, I'm off to the gym. Tonight's blog brought to you by "Ah Leah" Donnie Iris.
