Ok since I know everyone's just dying to hear what I've been listening to
lately I'll let you know: 

Mogwai - Auto Rock
This absolutely gorgeously melancholic art rock(or whatever!) tune was
perfectly used in the finale of Miami Vice. Just simply breathtaking,
beautiful piano lines combined with warm guitars/electronics.

Phoenix - Too Young
The french pop/rock group Phoenix was first introduced to me through the film
Lost in Translation. Maybe a bit too much on the artsy side for some, but
nevertheless a great pop track in the vein of Air/Mew/BoC.

The Killers - When You Were Young
I heard this straightforward poprock song on the radio a while ago and was
hooked immediately. A true feelgood track with a hint of melancholy in it
(yeah, I'm not big on paradoxes anyway). I've been having serious troubles
getting this song out of my head today. Fucking brilliant, strings for the
win!
