Had a good weekend out on the farm. Got almost all of the corn harvest finished by Sunday. Just got a call from Dad who says that he finished up yesterday. So, we are officially done with the final corn harvest for my father. In some ways, I'm going to miss the annual planting and harvesting rites of the seasons. But, I know this is really what Dad wants to do, so I'll support him. We had really good crops this year too, so a nice way to sent off. On the downside though, we had several equipment issues from the water pump going out on the combine, the radiator plugging on the 4440 John Deere tractor, the clutch spring going bad on the 930, one of the stirrators busting. Oh, that was fun getting the stirrator rod out of a full bin of corn on Sunday. Dad hacked out a small door in the roof of the bin. Then, he and I turned the rod up by hand since the rod is basically a 30 ft long screw. Fortunately, the bin repair guys were able to quickly re-install a new rod yet that evening. Saturday I got to help empty out the other bin. I think I still have some corn dust in my lungs yet from all of that. 8/ So today I went to look at house. Loved the look of the house and really liked the location, and then I got a chance to look at the disclosure sheet. Older home, yup, you guessed it, Orangeburg sewer pipe. Well, I'm not willing to take on the risk of having that collapse at any time, so I'm passing on the property. If it wasn't for that, the older wiring (a fuse breaker box), and an older furnace, I'd be buying that place in a heartbeat. So, looks like I'm back to no prospects at the moment (much like my dating life). Was going to look at another place, and it had already sold in 2 days after listing! Who says this housing market is dead? Let's see, a few misc. items. Weighed in at 171 last night, so that's good news. I'm happy to hold here if not slowly drop a few more in the coming weeks. My fanatasy football team is currently 4th out of 10. I'm within striking distance of 1st yet though. I just need Peyton Manning to get hit by a loaded cement truck, twice.
