Well, let's get caught up shall we? Last weekend, we here in Iowa got nailed by a massive ice storm. Many parts of Iowa lost power overnight, and some places still even today still haven't gotten power restored. I only lost power for a minute, enough to screw up all of my clocks. My old roomie didn't have power for almost a day. In fact, he came over to my place and another friend's place to hang out and keep warm. Need that electricity to power the furnace igniters and blower. I made it to church, and just as service was ending, the power went out thus ending mass early. Then this week on Wed. afternoon, I found out that I had to travel to St. Louis on Thur. to support some training for our customers. I got stuck on a 7:30 am flight, which meant I had to be up at 5 am. Funny thing, I forget to take off my watch, and it doesn't set of the metal detector. Yet I still have to take my shoes off? Okay, I feel safe. Anyways, we get in the air, and then have to go into a holding patter for 45 min. due to storms in St. Louis which shut down the air port. I find out later, that the same storms create a near blizzard in Iowa the next day. I finally land an hour behind schedule, get lost on the way to the customer, finally get there, and manage to back the rental car into a barrier. So now, I have a busted quarterpanel. *sigh* Fortunately, the work with the customer goes relatively smoothly in the next two days. The hotel is average. I can't believe I get jacked 100+ bucks a night for a room though. The customers want me to leave my laptop behind so they can use my engineering tools. I laugh at them. So, by 4 pm, I'm heading out to turn in my rental car. I have to fill out an accident report. Who knows when I'll hear back. Forunately, my workplace forces us to take the insurance, so I'm hoping I won't have to pay too much. By 4:45 I'm in the airport, waiting for my 7pm flight. Of course, we don't get off the ground until almost 8:30 due to planes and crew coming in late due to backedup airports around the Midwest. I finally drag home to bed around 10pm. Oh yeah, I leave Iowa, single digit wind chills, land in St. Louis to almost 60 degree weather. I nearly die of heat stroke, because I'm wearing my winter gear. I arrive back to Iowa, to scrap off the ice and snow from my truck in single degree wind chill weather again. *sigh* Then this morning, my crappy luck continues, I go downstairs to the laundry room and find the window on the floor. Somehow, the window came off of its brackets and busted out the glass. So, I had to make a run to the Home Depot to get some plexi-glass since they don't sell windows in that size. Spent a couple hours getting that cut plexi-glass cut to fit, and then using the Handyman's Secret Weapon, duct tape, to seal off the leaks around the frame. Well, at least from the outside you can't see how redneck this looks. I'm afraid to find out what's next in store for me. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I'm stuck on the dreaded project with no budget and tons of problems. Heaven help me. Wonder if it is time to go to a new department.
