Spent the weekend out on the farm again. Our corn harvest is in full swing now. Yields are down 10-15 bushels/acre compared to last year thanks to our dry spell in August. Corn is testing anywhere from 14 to 19 moisture points, which isn't so bad. But we still have 1 field that looks pretty green yet, so Dad is hoping for a good frost to hit this week and maybe the corn will dry down by next week when it comes to harvest that field. On Saturday, we finished filling the first bin and by yesterday evening, we had the second bin 3/4 full. I was the runner all weekend, I hauled the loads up and unloaded them. Damn, it sure gets dark early already. We had to quit by 8pm on Saturday night due to darkness. By this next weekend, the first bin should be dried down for transportation and off-site storage and we'll be going at it again. I'll prolly take the week of the 13th for vacation to head out to the farm to do the fall field work (chisel plowing). Already got my first support call from work. Fortunately I was out of town, or I would have been sitting in on a Sunday morn. at 7am to watch another guy reinstall some test software. I'm worried that the factory techs are going to get lazy and just call us engineers everytime they have an "issue". And speaking of work, I was given a small reward for busting my ass for the last project. Somehow, 35 bucks in gift certificates doesn't exactly motivate me. Don't get me wrong, it is nice to have my manager notice the extra effort, but I'd rather had an extra day off rather than mall money. Really starting to look like fall around here. The trees are starting to shade to the different colors of the season. Even had a bit of light frost on the truck this morning. Man, I'm not ready for winter yet, I haven't even had summer yet. Shoutout to Innuendo!
