There weren't any "rude boys" around in Jamaica when the ska era began, not
for many years. After rock steady (rocksteady) came in 1966 the violence
spread across the island (of Jamaica). The violent people were the "rude boys"
("rudy, rudies"). Some of the rude boys traveled to U.K. and spread the
rocksteady and ska culture to the skinheads of U.K. who were working class
bald head boys. The original skinheads I think were not racist, they listened
to music played to them by black Afro-Caribbean men. But they enjoyed fighting
against hippies etc. They drank beer and popped pills. The original skinheads
had to do with the Mod culture. The original Mods had Beatles hair though, the
newer Mods had short cropped hair, they were the Mod Skins.
