[22:16]:Shinarae <squire>: I just posted on the hatchling concept. if anyone
has any further questions on the idea, I'll be here for 15 minutes
[22:21]:Superlapa (squire): But with tamed mounts we actually CAN have a mount
with huge resists against everything.
[22:21]:Superlapa (squire): And now you are saying that we can't get that with
hatched ones? :)
[22:21]:Shinarae <squire>: right. offspring are nice, but nothing beats
hunting down a powerful mount on the go
[22:22]:Drifter (squire): now that we are at it, how about a guilds.beastmaster
 newsgroup?
[22:22]:Shinarae <squire>: huge resists to all? no, I don't think so. but you
can get high resists to a few, and good resists against the rest. offspring
aren't always going to be as good as tamed
[22:22]:Shinarae <squire>: I like having the mount questions all in one place,
but we can discuss it
[22:22]:Jantsu [squire]: Well that was the one i wanted to hear
[22:23]:Drifter (squire): Well I just pointed that beastmasters is prolly the
only guild w/o a newsgroup, not only for mount related stuff
[22:23]:Shinarae <squire>: here is the analogy I want to make: let's say you
have a special magical chest, and you put a pair of +10 str legs in them
[22:23]:Superlapa (squire): I, like quite a lot of long term beastmasters,
have atleast one mount that used to have 100% resists to all, phys is "down"
to 80%
[22:23]:Shinarae <squire>: a month later, you find that you also have an extra
pair of +1 str legs
[22:23]:Lyriikka (squire): so what use are hatched mounts compared to tame
ones?
[22:23]:Shinarae <squire>: that +1 str legs gets +1 more every month, till +8
[22:23]:Shinarae <squire>: admittedly it's not as good as the original pairs,
but it's not bad to have. especially if it's not expensive to make
[22:24]:Shinarae <squire>: obviously that analogy isn't perfect, but it's the
basic idea
[22:25]:Superlapa (squire): Well this is batmud after all. If it isn't the
best one available it's crap. I'd think no-one will spend any time on hatched
ones if they don't have the possibility to become ATLEAST as strong as the
parents.
[22:26]:Shinarae <squire>: in any event, mounts can get lost or destroyed in a
variety of ways. the ability to have reserve mounts, or mounts for low-impact
work (exping for example) seems like a valid use for one
[22:26]:Shinarae <squire>: well if "best" means "max phys resist" you can do
that. if "best" means "max all resist" then no you can't
[22:26]:Shinarae <squire>: honestly that'd be asking too much
[22:27]:Superlapa (squire): with the right amount of work it would make sense
[22:27]:Shinarae <squire>: and again, I cannot stress how important the
parents are in this. it makes a huge difference to the hatchling's starting
resists
[22:28]:Superlapa (squire): well it isn't all that hard to get up with 80phys
100all others parents
[22:29]:Superlapa (squire): but as what i've heard it seems to take forever to
get them growing
[22:29]:Superlapa (squire): and even longer to grow up to the expectations...
[22:29]:Shinarae <squire>: well a tandomly-discovered mount probably doesn't
have that. I've seen the code. but there are some left over from (cough)
clever use of stable code
[22:30]:Lyriikka (squire): is there a formula in the code?
[22:30]:Shinarae <squire>: out of time. I'll be back later
