How odd that the next time that I manage to get a blog entry done, I do it for Father's Day (with the previous being for Mother's Day). Anyways, I took a week's vacation to head back to the farm for some wholesome work. Spent most of the week splitting another year's worth of firewood, fixed fence, and mowed a few acres of CRP ground for our neighbor. I managed to pick up my farmer's tan once again. The vacation was pretty therapeutic as I managed to not think about work in the past week. However, speaking of work, things are in flux at the moment for me. My team lead for my main project got shanghaied off to another "more important" program. This leaves us in the team in a chaotic state. I've been bumped up another level of responsibility to handle the softwaredut management duties of the project. This means I'll soon be unable to breathe as the next phase will come up and the lack of planning and experience in all of the lead roles is going to bite us in the rear. I'm not sure I'm ready for this, but a couple of my coworkers are quite secure in my capabilites. We'll see how things work out. I guess I can't pass down an opportunity to try something different with little penalty for failure. I mean, what are they going to say, "you got this job with little training and in the middle of the program, little wonder you failed." Also, in the coming weeks I'll be moving to a new place and away from my apartment complex. I can't wait to get away from the complex as it has greatly declined in the quality of residents in the past months with the current rental manager in place. Most evenings I'm the only white guy out wandering around in the midst of blaring rap and Latino folk music. So far nothing has happened to myself or my stuff, but the incidents of having cop cars show up have gone up greatly. Fortunately the move will go quick to the new place as neither my roomie nor I have a lot of material goods to haul. Oh yeah, forgot to mention the roomie is buying this house, so it'll be nice to have a place that won't have the management coming in out at least once a month making sure we haven't turned the place into a crack house. I also managed to celebrate yet another birthday on this planet back on June 9th. I didn't do too much except take a half day from work to head to the farm to help haul hay from the field and then celebrate with a steak and birthday cake supper. Yum!!! And I want to thank Boot again for her blog posting. ,) Well, time to get back to work (working late tonight when no one is around so I can get some work done). Sad that the only time I can concentrate and get some code done is after hours due to the constant attention I need to give to the rest of the team/projects. I dread what lies in the future with even more management responsibility. Shoutout to Boot (here's your request!)
