A few people have been curious about what it is to be a wizard in BatMUD. Or more accurately, nobody has asked that for a long time, but I needed a topic and this sounds like a good topic to start with. Naturally all developers do not have the same responsibilities, but I'm just writing about my day. Someone else might have it completely different. New wizards often have less responsibilities, but usually those who have been wizards for longer periods of time have many projects that sometimes require maintenance.
When logging to the game, I often check the wiz channels to get a vague idea if something new has happened. After that I read the news. Actually we don't have that much articles in wiz groups and the conversation there isn't that frequent.
So what happens daily in wizard world? It usually comes down to development and maintenance. In my position I need to know something about the development of others as well, because each and everyone do not have full writing access to the rest of the mud and therefore some developers need to get their changes copied by someone who has access. This is often the case when it comes to bugfixing. Depending on the change, it may sometimes take some time to verify that the change would actually work too.
My days aren't always full, but sometimes things can stack. If a wizard has a new area ready, it usually means I need to be somehow aware of it. Often it means that I need to spend a day to just go through with it. Or someone else who is designated as an area approver. There has been days when bugfixes, approvals, copies and different kinds of discussion about possible changes take all your day and doesn't really leave too much time to work with development yourself.
So how about this day? I suppose this day has been quite slow. I've made one copy and taken a look at one bugfix that someone else did. This bug was actually result of my code so, great that I didn't need to worry about it Today, I have been thinking that I should continue with my Triad of Darkness-project that is commonly known by players as the New Evil Priests. It has been a little bit stuck recently because of some different lore related projects. At the moment I'm working with a strange swamp cultivation concept that's related to priests of Burglefloogah. It's pretty cool even if I say it myself, but I won't go into details. Why not? Well, everybody loves a tease.
