The Samurai are the masters of Daisho, two swords. Their attitude to swordsmanship is that it is a discipline, a way to strengthen the inner self. Control and restraint are preached. A samurai does not look for a fight and always uses the minimum force necessary. Technique and spiritual strength are what counts, winning is unimportant compared to these. When they strike at their foe, they strike first with their spirit. They look into the hara or centre of being of their foe, reaching out with their spirit so that they may know how their opponent will strike even before their opponent knows himself. It is often said that duels between samurai are over before the first blow is struck.
