Help: Death

DEATH (is fun especially when someone else dies...) =================================================== When you die, Death carries you to Hell (or Heaven, if you are good aligned). In BatMUD death is just a temporary inconvenience, a part of the every day gameplay. Usually you will soon be going about your adventures again. There are, however, some things to note about death. It is important to keep your character's charisma score high enough, otherwise you risk all kinds of negative effects when getting back alive. Dead characters, aka ghosts, can talk and be heard in 'ghost' or 'party' channel. They can also use tells to communicate directly with other players. Getting back to being alive --------------------------- There are several ways to join the living again, the main ones being various spells cast by other players (and certain NPCs), and "praying". Praying is often considered the very last resort, for reasons explained below, but some people use it anyway. You can accept one of three resurrection spells ('raise dead', 'resurrect' and 'new body') from other players or a NPC caster. The syntax for accepting is 'accept from ', or just 'accept' to see all the choices. - With 'raise dead' you get to keep roughly a quarter (25%) of your experience points, and it's the cheapest and safest of the resurrection spells. - 'Resurrect' lets you keep about half (50%), but you need higher charisma to be safe. - With 'new body' you keep approximately 75% of carried exp, but this comes with a price: you get a brand new body that takes approximately 6 hours (yes, that is real-life hours) to be fully functional again. If there are no players to raise or resurrect you, you can accept from an NPC caster. There are two available in the game: Theresa and Athalon. Theresa offers her services to older players, but as an apprentice, she can be slower in casting, and can have a queue before you. Also, due to her lower skills, your exp loss will be greater compared to player cast spells. On top of all that, Theresa does not cast 'new body'. If you are at level 25 or below, or under 7 days of character age, you can 'accept' rais/ress/body from Athalon. He is far more skillful than his apprentice and thus his casts result in less experience loss. As mentioned, you can also try to 'pray' to get out of Hell/Heaven. This IS the fastest way out, but also the most risky: The probability of negative effects is HIGH. You WILL also lose ALL of your carried experience! There is also the option of reincarnation (or reanimate), with which you recreate your character from scratch. See 'help reincarnation' for more. Location you are transferred when you get alive ----------------------------------------------- The location entered after leaving hell is dependant on the continent where you died and on the continent where the resurrecting player is located (obviosly this isn't a factor when using 'pray'). If the player casting the resurrection spell was on the same continent where you died, you will be resurrected to the caster's location. If the caster was in some other continent you will be resurrected to the portal room on the main city of the continent you died in. An exception to these rules is the case when the caster is residing in Esiris. In this case the location you will enter after resurrection is the same as the casters - but you can only leave from Esiris to the continent where you died in. Death effects ------------- After death all your stats will be lowered temporarily. This effect is stackable, so if you die several times in a row, your stats will be reduced more. Also, the more you die during a boot, the longer the death effects will last. Note, or a warning ------------------ Flooding 'ghost'-channel with 20x 'RESS ME!!!' or something similar is considered rude and stupid, and will most likely cause more deaths or 'ignore ':s instead of ress offers. If you are in "hurry", and nobody reacts, you have the option to 'pray' or accept from an NPC caster (Theresa, or again, Athalon, for newbies).
