From the highest mountains, where the currents are always strong and the sky wide open, comes the mythical race of harpies. With a half-bird, half-human form, they are creatures of wind and air. Harpies have the upper body of a human female, powerful wings, feathered tail and sharp-taloned legs of a bird of prey. Their young are rare and precious, so harpies protect their nests fiercely. Since harpies are exclusively female and a rather reclusive race, rumors swirl how the offspring is conceived. Some claim harpies abduct human males, but actual evidence is scant - in part because few survive an encounter with the harpy. However, harpies are known for taking what they desire, and their hunger is said to be insatiable. They sing no bird songs but instead wield their voice like a weapon, potent enough to cause both agonizing pain and exquisite pleasure. Ferocious by nature, harpies tend to attack first and rarely ask questions later, in part since their adversaries frequently end up dead.
